#11: How Jay & Ryanne Earn $100,000 per year from eBay and Airbnb

make money ebay airbnb

Jay and Ryanne have created an unconventional life.

They browse thrift stores and yard sales near their home in rural Virginia, looking for items to resell on eBay.

They started reselling shoes and clothes. Then they expanded to finding vintage and collector’s items.

Today they earn $60,000 per year through their eBay business. And that’s just the beginning.

In today’s episode, Jay and Ryanne describe how they’ve bought, organized and listed more than 5,000 items for sale on eBay.

They describe how they’ve developed an eye for “junk” that could command top-dollar. They recently sold a set of brass hinges for $300, for example.

They also talk about their latest venture, renting a home through Airbnb, which brings in another $40,000 per year.

Between eBay and Airbnb, this couple earns six-figures … and they’re doing it on their own terms.

Check out their story in today’s episode.

WOW!!! This sounds like my dream life. I wish I had heard this when I was 12, before I had gone down the paths I ended up going down. I don’t even know how to express the emotions building up inside of me right now, I want to explode and just do this.

Haha, right? Just like anything else you just gotta get the ball rolling if it’s important to you 🙂 Try selling just one thing over the weekend and you’ll have officially started!

We really appreciated being interviewed by J. and Paula. Glad some of you are responding to our wacky lifestyle of selling scavenged stuff and renting on Airbnb. If you have any specific question, just ask!

This was a great episode. I’ve sold quite a few things on eBay and now realize some things I’ve been doing wrong; not having enough in my pipeline, selling items at too little a margin, and so on. I have a 3 on/4 off schedule that leaves me quite a bit of time that could be utilized to increase our family income. Thanks!

ooh cool! i bet you could build up your pipeline quick with that type of schedule!

I hadn’t ever heard of that route of doing it either but totally makes sense… and really so easy/lazy once you get the system down! 🙂

The real challenge is to build up a large enough inventory so you can price high and be patient for the right buyer. Higher prices comes with good research and presentation.

The game of selling stuff quick and cheap is usually a race to the bottom.

How do you store the inventory ? Do u rent a warehouse and a truck to get the furniture?

This show was awesome! I am a full-time real estate investor, but the Air-BnB niche was cool to learn more about. And we’re cleaning out our own house and storage areas with TONS of junk, so the online selling business was inspiring. Thanks Jay and Paula for having them on.

I listened to a couple of episodes, and I have to say Jay is totally driving this podcast. He’s so natural and funny. Paula is a bit stiff and seems to be following a script rather than the flow of the conversation.
