#1: The Story of M.O.N.E.Y. — Having Heart and Hustle

paula pant & j. money

Welcome! We’re glad you’re joining us!

I’m one of your hosts, Paula Pant, and I’d like to introduce you to my co-host (for the first 26 episodes), Jay Money.

Jay and I are total opposites:

  • He focuses on saving money. I focus on earning and investing.
  • He makes decisions based on emotion, leading from the heart. I’m logical, factual and analytical.
  • He uses ‘gut checks.’ I use spreadsheets.
  • He’s striving for financial independence. I’m already there.
  • He’s a father of two. I am not.
  • He’s a dude. I’m a lady.
  • He’s white. I’m not.
  • He was born in America. I immigrated to the U.S. as a child.
  • He lives in a quiet suburb. I live in downtown Vegas.
  • He lives on the East Coast. I live out West.
  • He prefers the cozy home life. I travel to at least five foreign countries every year.

And we both freakin’ love each other.  🙂

We hope that this podcast helps you discover your own ideas about money, work and life.  Thanks for tuning in. We appreciate it!!
_______

UPDATE: Jay left the show at Episode 26. I’ll miss him — but the show will go on!

Starting with Episode 31, this show changes its name to The Afford Anything Podcast. Our guests still include entrepreneurs and millionaires, but I also interview experts from many fields — including bestselling authors, world-class scientists and renowned professors — about decision-making, productivity, and mastering your career, money and life.

Hi Paula. Was kind of looking for the “archive” or something link, but I guess “binge” works too😁.
I got to hear about your podcast on the South African @JustOneLap podcast called the The Fat Wallet Show. I stay in Namibia.
Wanted to download and listen while I work or do other shitty stuff. Seems downloads stop in a few seconds. Any hack?

Hi Tafadzwa – sorry you’re having problems with the download! That’s strange, as I was able to download the episode. The podcast is also available on a variety of platforms like iTunes (https://affordanything.com/itunes) and Spotify, which might make on-the-go listening easier.

The other ‘hack’ is that each episode has its own easy link that you can navigate to when you want to see the show notes: https://affordanything.com/episode1, https://affordanything.com/episode2, etc.

        Hope that helps!

I forgot to say I went on Twitter, checked out your feed, loved it, went to the blogging site and boy do I love the podcast!
It’s 3.30am in Namibia right now and there is nothing else I would rather be doing right now than listen to the podcast!
      Super awesome vibe!

Yeah! I am so happy to have this. I am at a job that I have been in for 14+ years and planning an escape plan for a mini “retirement” before I need to work again. I am a bit older than you two but still a rebel at heart.

    Loved the show!

Woww – cool! Thanks for listening and now, err… typing! 🙂 Just checked out your blog – love that you’re trying out lots of challenges. I tracked our baby’s $$$ over time too and eventually gave up after 29 months and $28,000+ into it:

      https://www.budgetsaresexy.com/2014/03/how-much-babies-cost/

Turns out paying attention to your babies vs tracking their costs are more important, who knew?

Great job on the podcast. I just listened to the first session and really appreciate the great content, transparency and stories. Forget binging on “reality” shows, I’m binging on a four-course meal of financial education, freedom, fun, and savvy.

I can give you an idea for a place where the dollar rate would work in your favor – Eastern Europe 😀 I am from Bulgaria, it is VERY cheap for foreigners here. Like, 1 dollar is almost 2 leva 🙂 Romania is affordable too. I guess the same for Serbia, Greece and Turkey, but I haven’t visited them 🙂 We have a lot of beautiful places to visit, a lot of history and a lot of good food 🙂

That was a pretty good introduction. It really caught my interest so I subscribed.
Saving 15% for retirement is something I am going to start.
The freelance article writing for magazines and newspapers. What are some ideas to get my foot in the door for that opportunity?
