I’ve always taken an approach to life that puts my freedom first.
My one and only 9-5 lasted only 3 years. Since then, I’ve built passive income and financial independence through rental real estate.
And while most listeners think this is a podcast about money, it’s really about a philosophy around life that is disguised as a finance podcast.
Today, I get real about this whole money thing. I hope you follow along the mental journey with me.

I love reading … but sitting in one spot is time-consuming. While I love physically reading (with my eyes), I also listen to audiobooks; reading with my ears while I’m at the gym, cooking dinner or otherwise multitasking.
I listen to one audiobook a month, thanks to my Audible subscription. Audible has a huge selection of books and their app has a simple, intuitive, user-friendly interface.

Paula! This was so good. It perfectly complements the audiobook I’m listening to (Prosperity Consciousness- it’s from the 90’s before online banking and debit cards (!!) but happened to call my name from the library shelf. It’s full of mantras and almost seems like magical thinking in parts, but it’s actually pretty helpful.)
I’m realizing that my past discomfort and shame around money is something that others can probably subconsciously pick up on, including customers. I think it caused me to always undervalue my work, and to almost feel like apologizing when someone paid me for something. I was always wanting to give more, more, more but refused to be paid well. Thanks to MMM, your podcast, and other awesome resources, I have stopped viewing money as taboo, and not surprisingly, it is flowing in more easily, and being spent and invested wisely. Thanks for helping change my perspective!

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this podcast! We often forget that the purpose of becoming educated about personal finance is not to have the opportunity to become absorbed with consumerism but to get out of debt (if any) and make wiser choices about our finances so that they align with the way we want to live our lives.
I appreciated you reflecting on your financial – philosophy of life. I too agree, that my fondest memories were those that didn’t necessarily involve material objects but were the experiences created when I didn’t have to think or worry about moolah! Although those memories tend to be travels abroad all by myself in my teens and early 20’s, when mom and dad were taking care of the bill, the fact that I didn’t have to be concerned allowed me to focus my attention on those things that really mattered – building relationships and living in the now.

Great podcast.
And it made me think about conventional goal setting – it’s always about stuff. We are conditioned to desire possessions and that does motivate some people but for many of your readers and listeners freedom is the goal.
Imagine if we all set freedom goals to visualize and feel each day. That would give us the clarity we need to make it happen.

Paula, you rocked the solo! This might be my favorite one yet. I like the way you think. Keep putting it out there.

Nice podcast. I learned a lot from watching it. I always set some goals in life but I don’t focus it much with money though money is needed for everything we want in life still, there are things that money can’t buy.
