My 2016 fundraising goal is to provide lifesaving relief for the survivors of the Nepal earthquake.
In April 2014, a massive earthquake struck Nepal, a small Himalayan country located just south of Tibet. (I was born there).
The earthquake killed 10,000 people and injured 23,000 more. It destroyed homes, hospitals, clinics, schools and roads.
The total damage represents 25% of the nation’s GDP.
Thousands of survivors are still homeless. Many of those who have homes live without electricity, water, medicine, blankets, or adequate winter clothing.
We must rebuild.
My organization of choice is VOW Media, an international videography group with offices in Nepal, the Netherlands and Hong Kong.
VOW plays an important role in relief efforts. One of it’s co-founders is my cousin, and I’ve been following their work for years. They’ve been on-the-ground in Nepal since the earthquake, offering much-needed basic supplies like blankets and warm clothes.
They ask for donations for this lifesaving cause.
In their own words:
“All financial records will be published online and it will be completely transparent. With the funds we collect, we will buy essential items, support older and form new citizen volunteer groups to assist and provide relief to survivors of the Nepal Earthquake. These groups will organise themselves and go out to neighbourhoods and various districts to distribute immediate relief.
In addition to distribution of relief materials we will also be assisting in the rebuilding of people’s homes once we have enough funds to do it.
If there is anything in particular you would want your precious resources to be spent on, you can also let us know and we will make sure the money gets spent in the community you want. We will not take a single dime of the money you have donated to the relief and reconstruction fund. It will all be accounted for and spent wisely to support people in need.
