The Real Winners of Todayโ€™s Big Game ๐Ÿ†

Today, millions will watch the Super Bowl.

But while most eyes are on the field, I’m thinking about the many winners who made their move when opportunity knocked:

The local Airbnb hostsย who spotted this opportunity when New Orleans was announced in 2020, learned to analyze properties and secure financing, and turned their preparations into peak-season profits this weekend (see screenshots below!)

The family-owned parking lotย that typically serves downtown office workers but secured special event permits, implemented a reservation system, and transformed their business model for this weekend.

The food truck ownersย who spent weeks building relationships with event organizers, navigated complex permitting processes, and secured prime locations near the highest-traffic stadium entrances.

The local traffic management companyย that invested in new equipment, trained a temporary workforce, and won their biggest-ever contract to manage road closures around the stadium.

The mom-and-pop shuttle serviceย that partnered with several hotels, expanded their fleet, and created a seamless stadium transport system thatโ€™s been fully booked throughout the event.

The hometown printing shopย that typically handles business cards and banners but pivoted to event credentials, invested in specialized security printing equipment, and landed multiple venue contracts.

The upstart cleaning serviceย that usually handles residential homes but built a temporary workforce, created detailed systems and checklists, and is now handling post-event cleanup for corporate hospitality suites.

The local physical security firmย that started decades ago with just two employees handling nightclub security, bid on their first major event contract several years ago, and now has a full team working the game’s perimeter.

Here’s what these examples have in common:

Each of these entrepreneurs saw an opportunity and moved toward it.

They didn’t have every detail figured out. The conditions weren’t perfect.

But they:

โœ”๏ธ Gathered information

โœ”๏ธ Built systems

โœ”๏ธ Found support

โœ”๏ธ Took action

There were probably lots of reasons why it wasn’t the right time to begin. As small business startups, many of them probably โ€” ahem โ€”ย kicked offย by balancing their new side project with their day job.

They took action โ€“ even before they felt fully prepared.

They refused to sit on the sidelines.

This reminds me of real estate investing:

The most successful investors didn’t wait until they felt “ready.”

They didn’t wait for the perfect market conditions. They didn’t wait until their friends and colleagues understood, or every family member was 100 percent on board.

And most importantly:

They didn’t get caught up in comparing today’s prices or interest rates to “the good old days.”

They didn’t get stuck reminiscing about how the market “used to be.”

Instead, they got creative โ€” exploring exurban neighborhoods, weighing out-of-state markets, focusing on multifamily properties, or finding homes with value-add opportunities.

They accepted today’s rates as reality and focused on finding solutions that work NOW.

They didn’t let “I’m too busy” become a permanent excuse. They didn’t push it to “someday.”

They didn’t wait for life to magically clear their calendar.

Instead, they:

โœ”๏ธ Started with systems rather than certainty

โœ”๏ธ Built support networks rather than waiting for confidence

โœ”๏ธ Took imperfect action rather than seeking perfect timing

But here’s what made the difference: They didn’t do it alone.

Just like today’s true Super Bowl winners, they:
