Money Magazine Paula Pant Afford Anything

Well hey, would you look at that!!

Money Magazine wrote a huge feature on my real estate investments. And they NAILED the headline. Damn.

I’m 34 Years Old and Own 8 Homes. Here’s How I Did It.

I’ve been writing about real estate investing since the beginning, and I never thought of a headline that clever! Whoa. I get the +1 for rental properties, and they get the +1 for headline-writing. 🙂

I’ve been reading Money Magazine for more than a decade; I’m thrilled to see myself get featured in it.

Seriously, check out this article.

And thank you for being along on this crazy, epic journey.

Can I just say, in the photo of the Atlanta Triplex, I love what you did with the fireplace/mantle and the wood patina table is a great look!

Oh, that’s original to the house! The triplex was built 107 years ago, and to the best of my knowledge, those mantles are original.

Great article! My kids are teenagers and I keep harping on them about money management. I sent them this link in the hopes someone else saying the same thing will sink in.

I’m a terrible headline writer. It’s really a unique skill that I’m not very good at… yet. So glad to see you’re profiled! Kinda funny how much they downplayed your blogging and podcast earnings in the article. And glad you’re blogging again! I’ve been reading this site from the very beginning! 🙂

Congrats on being featured! I have a ton of respect for real estate investors, especially those who manage multiple units. I know from experience it’s not always the easiest thing, but it’s totally worth it.

Congrats Paula! I subscribed to Money magazine waaaay back in 1995 after flipping through while waiting for a doc appointment. It’s how I learned the basics. I credit them for getting me started early and much of my financial success!

I’ve learned a LOT from reading Money Magazine over the years. I remember flipping through their pages as a teenager, and then later in college, back when the concept of homeownership seemed so elusive and other-worldly …

Can I just say that they are super tricky with that “video” of you at the top of the article. I clicked on it and waiting through that whole “ad” to see your video and it didn’t exist. Very mean of them. But congrats on the article!

Congrats – the article brought me here 🙂 I’ve been working on a similar plan, to make a few sacrifices and changes to a life that I’m not really enjoying anyway…so that I can do my own thing instead of making a lot of money for someone else. It’s always nice to see someone else lead the way, and do so successfully. Keep going!

Only thing is, I’m a couple years older than you so I feel a bit behind – guess I have some catching up to do lol

Read this article today (Money Magazine, August 2018) and enjoyed how the subject, 34 year old Paula Pant, is both an immigrant and a millennial that “skipped cable” and “expensive cities” to afford buying a home, then she and her husband tightened their belt buckles and worked at home-ownership. My favorite part is the quote towards the end of the article: “I felt at home in the neighborhoods where my friends who grew up in Starbucks neighborhoods might not have felt at home.”

I’m currently the same age as you were when you bought your first property, and now I’m looking to buy my own. Ideally, it’ll be a place I live for about 3 years and later convert to a rental property. I’m strongly considering buying a foreclosed home and renovating it, but I’ve heard there are some big risks to consider with foreclosures, and the auctions can be aggressive. Do you have any advice for buying foreclosures? What to look for, costs, experience at the auctions, etc? I tried to search around the blog, but I didn’t see any articles specifically about your buying process, and I’d love to hear what you have to say about it!

Congrats on the Money feature! I credit Money magazine for helping me develop good money habits. I’m glad that Money is covering a range of portfolios rather than just the mutual fund, passive indexing path. My husband and I had traditional corporate jobs to start, so a lot of our retirement money was already tied up in paper assets. Real estate is a great way to diversify. We’re 47 and have 15 properties. We still have our paper asset retirement funds, but the real estate provides steady cash flow and options for paying for our kids’ colleges and retiring early.

All I can say is that you’re really awesome! Your story is really inspiring especially for those who can’t even afford to buy at least one home. When we learn how to sacrifice many things and live a frugal lifestyle, we’ll learn to value every single cent that we earn. By making careful decisions in investing, we will be led to wise choices.

Oh man, can I just say that I loved the part in the article about walking around the neighborhood eating fried pickles. That’s amazing, and I love everything about that.

My husband and I started investing in real estate early too. I turn 34 tomorrow, and we currently own 8 properties (50 units total) and are passive investors in several multifamily syndication deals, totaling over 1,000 doors.

A big part of why we do it is so our children can grow up and do anything they want in life. We can teach them how to leverage real estate investing to make sure the financial aspect of their lives is covered, and they can be free to pursue their passions as they wish.

It was so fun to meet you at FinCon this year, Paula, and I look forward to following your continued success!
